Frequently Asked Questions

This page has some basic answers to the questions that we are most commonly asked. For more detailed answers to more questions CLICK HERE for a complete FAQ document.

Question 1: Who is your pastor?

We don't have a pastor. We have a team of Elders (Overseers) (presently there are 4 Elders). The pattern in the New Testament is a missionary pastor (or a group of missionaries) start a church and when the church is established Elders are chosen to lead the church. (See: 1 Timothy 3:1-7, Titus 1:5-11)

Question 2: Are your Elders Pastors?

The word "pastor" is used in only one place in the whole New Testament.

Ephesians 4:11-12 "And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ"

Pastor in this context literally means "shepherd" - a person whom God has given the ability to lead people as a shepherd leads sheep with loving guidance and direction. Shepherding gifts lived-out in the life of an individual is something we look for in an Elder. So the answer is: Yes, Elders give pastoral leadership to the body.

Question 3: What do you believe?

For a document that tells you what we believe CLICK HERE. Approach this document with the understanding that this is not a formal doctrinal statement. It is written in plain language for everyday use. This paper does not use complex terminology.  So if you are looking for words like: grace, salvation, propitiation, sanctification, you will not find them in this document. However, these important concepts are discussed and are defined in context.

Question 4: So what are you guys? Calvinists?, Dispensational?, Armenian?, Charismatic? Non-Charismatic?

We are Biblical Christians. We choose to search the Bible first. That is not to say we can't learn from Calvin or Wesley or Luther. The first place to look for answers is the Bible then we consider the teachings of the church fathers. People in our church bring with them teachings from a variety of church backgrounds but our first choice is to seek the Lord in His Word. So we are not easily labeled. We also seek to fellowship with other Christians of various labels to learn from them and to share what is really important - our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
